This 1934 Duesenberg Model J, chassis 2399 with engine J‑374, is fitted with a stately Town Car body by Rollston, one of the most respected American coachbuilders of the Classic Era. The Rollston Company of New York was widely regarded for producing some of the strongest and most meticulously constructed bodies of the period. Known for their use of high-quality materials, precise castings, and refined detailing, Rollston bodies were both durable and elegant.

Of the approximately 57 bodies Rollston built for the Duesenberg Model J and JN chassis, only 15 were Town Cars, making this configuration both exclusive and highly desirable. The Town Car body style, with its enclosed rear passenger compartment and open chauffeur’s position, was the ultimate expression of formal, chauffeur-driven luxury.

Chassis 2399 is said to have been originally owned by a Chicago “businessman,” a description that, while understated, hints at a colorful early life. During its time in Chicago, the car would undoubtedly have been seen at many high-level engagements, whether strictly business or otherwise, reflecting both the prestige and presence associated with a Duesenberg.

In the mid-1950s, the car changed hands, eventually entering what would become an extraordinary period of long-term stewardship. Since 1959 until at least the early 2010's the car has been owned by William & JoEllen Snyder, who have carefully preserved and maintained the car for decades.

Rather than undergoing excessive restoration, the car has benefited from thoughtful conservation, allowing it to retain both its character and historical integrity while remaining fully functional.

Throughout its long ownership, chassis 2399 has been a regular participant at Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Club events and other gatherings celebrating the marque. Its quality and presentation have earned it numerous awards, demonstrating both its inherent significance and the care with which it has been maintained.
