Duesenberg Model J chassis 2358 was originally equipped with engine J‑333, forming part of its factory-delivered configuration. Like many Model Js, however, its mechanical history evolved over time as owners adapted the car to new purposes and projects.

In the late 1950s, the original engine J‑333 was removed by owner Mike Kollins for use in his ambitious Kollins LeGrande project, a well-known custom Duesenberg recreation inspired by the marque’s most prestigious designs. The removal of the engine reflects a period when Duesenberg components were often repurposed to support restoration efforts or creative reinterpretations of these legendary cars.

Following the removal of J‑333, chassis 2358 was fitted with engine J‑160, which has powered the car since that time. Such engine substitutions were not uncommon in the mid‑20th century, when maintaining drivability frequently took precedence over preserving original matching components.

Today, chassis 2358 stands as a representative example of the evolving mechanical histories seen in many Duesenbergs. While no longer retaining its original engine, it continues to embody the engineering excellence and enduring appeal of the Model J, shaped by both preservation efforts and the creative ambitions of its past owners.
