Information

Duesenberg Model J chassis 2300 is a rare and elegant example fitted with Convertible Victoria coachwork by Hibbard & Darrin, one of the most celebrated American design houses of the era. This particular car is among the limited number of Duesenbergs delivered through E. Z. Sadovich, the marque’s official agent in Paris, reflecting the strong appeal of the Model J among Europe’s elite clientele.

The first owner was Mrs. Honoré Palmer, a prominent figure who maintained residences in both Paris and Chicago. She selected Hibbard & Darrin’s refined Convertible Victoria body, a design that combined European elegance with American craftsmanship.

The coachwork itself was constructed using Hibbard & Darrin’s patented “Silentlyte” system, an advanced method that utilized cast aluminum structural framing covered with aluminum panels. This innovative approach offered several advantages over traditional wood-framed bodies, including increased strength, reduced weight, and the elimination of the squeaks and flex often associated with older construction techniques.

The car has undergone a complete restoration, returning it to a high standard while preserving a number of important original features. Notable details include its leather convertible top, chrome-plated spare tire covers, and additional toolboxes mounted alongside the running boards. All elements that enhance both functionality and period authenticity.

Today, chassis 2300 stands as a refined and technically interesting example of the Model J, combining advanced coachbuilding methods with the unmistakable elegance of Hibbard & Darrin design.
