Information

This 1929 Duesenberg Model J is an exceptionally rare Clear Vision Sedan built by the Walter M. Murphy Company of Pasadena, California. Although E. L. Cord owned two coachbuilding firms of his own in Indiana, Murphy ultimately produced the largest number of custom bodies for the Model J, primarily convertible coupes and convertible sedans. Among the far fewer sedans built, only five Clear Vision Sedans are recorded, and this example is one of them.

What sets this car apart is its extraordinary level of originality: it retains its factory‑delivered chassis, engine, and coachwork, exactly as assembled in 1929. The car was ordered new by a Michigan attorney, who specified the elegant Clear Vision sedan body, an advanced design noted for its improved sightlines, slim pillars, and refined proportions.

Later in its life, the Duesenberg was acquired by the Imperial Palace Collection in Las Vegas, one of the most significant American automobile collections of its era. While part of that collection, the car received a comprehensive restoration in the late 1990s, returning it to concours‑quality condition and preserving its rare coachwork with great authenticity.

Today, this Clear Vision Sedan stands as one of the rarest configurations of the Model J and one of the few sedans to survive with its original chassis, engine, and Murphy coachwork intact. It is an outstanding example of the elegance, power, and engineering sophistication that made the Duesenberg Model J the most celebrated American car of its generation.
