Information

This 1929 Duesenberg Model J carries one of only three Dual Cowl Phaeton bodies ever built by the Walter M. Murphy Company of Pasadena, making it one of the rarest and most distinctive open Model Js produced. Murphy’s signature styling is immediately evident in the car’s slender windshield pillars, graceful sweeping lines, and the overall lightness of proportion that helped define the firm’s reputation as the favored coachbuilder of West Coast clients.

One of the most notable features of this design is its unique rear tonneau arrangement, engineered for especially easy access to the second cowl passenger compartment, an elegant solution that set Murphy’s Dual Cowl Phaetons apart from those built by other coachbuilders.

The car was first restored more than fifty years ago, an early testament to its desirability among collectors even in the mid‑20th century. Its most recent restoration has just been completed, returning the Phaeton to a condition worthy of its place among the finest examples of the Duesenberg marque. With its rarity, beauty, and mechanical excellence, this car stands as a striking ambassador of the Model J’s enduring legend.
